Great news for families looking to reunite in Canada! Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has officially announced that the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2025 intake will begin on July 28, 2025. IRCC will send out invitations to apply (ITAs) to potential sponsors over a two-week period.
Up to 10,000 Applications to Be Accepted in 2025
As part of its 2025 immigration targets, IRCC will accept up to 10,000 complete sponsorship applications under the PGP. These applications allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residence in Canada.
Who Will Receive Invitations?
Invitations will be sent to individuals who previously submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 and have not yet been invited to apply. If you submitted a form in 2020, check your email inbox—and your spam or junk folder—for communication from IRCC starting July 28.
Note:
IRCC will not be opening a new interest to sponsor form in 2025 due to the existing number of submissions from 2020.
How to Apply if You Are Invited
If you receive an invitation, you must submit your complete sponsorship application online through:
The Permanent Residence Portal, or
The Representative Permanent Residence Portal (for applicants working with immigration consultants or representatives).
Timely and accurate submission is critical, as only complete applications will be considered.
Didn’t Get Invited? Consider the Super Visa
If you are not invited to apply under the PGP this year, another option to bring your parents or grandparents to Canada is the Super Visa.
The Canada Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years, allowing parents and grandparents to:
Stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time
Extend their visit by up to 2 years without leaving the country
The Super Visa is a flexible and family-friendly alternative for those who are not selected under the PGP 2025.
