Eligibility Criteria for Express Entry

The Express Entry system requires the submission of an online profile, which is evaluated using Canada’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Express Entry is an online system that we use to manage applications for permanent residence for 3 programs:
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
To create an Express Entry profile, you must first qualify under one of Canada’s three federal streams mentioned above. Afterwards, the Canadian government sends invitations to apply for permanent residence to the top-ranking candidates in the Express Entry pool.

Understanding Express Entry Points Calculation

When discussing Express Entry points in Canada, it typically refers to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS score is used by Canada to assess and rank candidates in the Express Entry pool based on several key factors:

  • Age
  • Education level
  • Proficiency in French or English
  • Work experience in Canada or abroad
  • Spousal or common-law partner’s credentials
  • Ties to Canada

These factors play a crucial role in determining an individual’s CRS score and their chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

To qualify for Express Entry as a skilled worker, you need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Work Experience: You should have at least one year of continuous full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience in a skilled occupation within the last 10 years. If your work experience is from outside Canada or within Canada, refer to our article ‘Proof of Work Experience for Express Entry’ for guidance on the required supporting documents and verification process by IRCC.

  2. Language Proficiency: You must demonstrate a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level seven in either English or French by taking an approved language test.

  3. Education: You must have completed post-secondary education that is evaluated against Canadian standards through an Education Credential Assessment.

These requirements are essential for eligibility under Express Entry as a skilled worker. For detailed information and guidance on each criterion, refer to our resources or contact us directly.
