What is the Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents?
As of July 4, 2022, the Super Visa allows eligible parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to:
Stay in Canada up to 5 years at a time per entry
Apply for an extension and remain up to 7 years
Enter Canada multiple times over a 10-year period (multiple-entry visa)
This is ideal for families who want to spend quality time together without the hassle of repeated visa applications.

Who Can Apply for Super Visa
The Super Visa is perfect for:
Parents and grandparents from countries that require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
Visitors from TRV-exempt countries, who will instead receive an authorization letter from IRCC for a stay of up to 2 years
Dependents cannot be included in the application—only parents or grandparents with their spouse/common-law partner are eligible.
Super Visa Eligibility Requirements
Applicant’s Eligibility Reuirements
Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Prove family relationship (e.g., birth certificate)
Pass a medical exam and be admissible to Canada
Show proof of medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company covering at least 1 year
Receive a letter of invitation from their child or grandchild in Canada
Prove that their child/grandchild meets the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO)
Sponsor’s Eligibility Requirements
The sponsor (child or grandchild in Canada) must:
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) level.
Provide a written commitment to financially support the parent or grandparent during their stay.

Super Visa Application Process
Gather Documents:
Letter of invitation from Canadian child/grandchild
Proof of financial support (meeting LICO)
Proof of relationship
Valid medical insurance
Submit the application to the visa office responsible for your region.
Complete a medical exam after IRCC sends you instructions.
